The first quarter moon amongst the clouds in a blue sky. The moon is a half circle and surrounded by white clouds. No land is visible.

Odyssey | First Quarter Moon

A waxing quarter moon is surrounded by delicate white clouds in a blue pastel sky. Half the moon is visible and appears as if it’s emerging from a sea of clouds.

The Story Behind the Photo

Making this photograph was a journey of a few years. I've always loved watching the moon dart in and out of the clouds, and it always seemed to me to be like a ship traveling through a sea with white waves. So I always tried to catch the moon whenever I saw it but I never had much success. To be clear, much of this was due to my own limitations as opposed to the weather and the timing of the moon phases. I would start thinking about the image and resolve to go out and photograph when conditions next looked good. But invariably after a few days passed I would become distracted with other issues. I would forget about the moon and turned to make other images. However one day when I wasn't even thinking about it, a friend invited me out for a sunset in Mission Bay. As soon as I arrived, I saw these wonderful clouds moving inland and realized the moon was in perfect position.

Note that although half the moon is visible, it’s called a quarter moon because this occurs when 1/4 of the days in the lunar cycle have passed from the date of the new moon.

Acrylic Fine Art Print with a Float Mount — Ready to Hang

Trulife Acrylic Fine Art Print

This is a photographic print where the front has been directly adhered to a sheet of TruLife acrylic which is an ultra clear, scratch resistant, and anti-reflective glazing. This process is known as face mounting. The acrylic captures light internally and bounces it off the surface of the print resulting in a display with incredible depth and vibrancy. With proper lighting, the acrylic print will appear to have light emanating from the image itself. The back of the print is sealed with another layer of protective acrylic.

The print comes ready to hang with hidden mounting hardware on the back that makes the print appear as if it is floating in front of the wall. No additional framing is needed. Choose this medium for a modern and minimalist presentation.

Print is signed and numbered on verso (back).

Please allow 4-6 weeks for production and delivery of your print. The prices include U.S. shipping, please inquire for international rates.
