Sea cave hidden in the bluffs at Sunset Cliffs, San Diego. An amazing sunset is seen from the inside and is reflected into the water at the cave entrance.

Sea Cave | Sunset Cliffs

Looking out of a small and hidden sea cave at Sunset Cliffs. A pool of water fills the opening and reflects vibrant sunset skies.

The Story Behind the Photo

I've never felt so happy getting a shot as I did today. I've been dreaming about getting a cave image with an awesome sky for a long time now. Spent many hours doing research online, learning about the tides, scouting out locations in person, figuring out when it's safe to go, and finally standing in a bunch of caves with cold wet feet hoping that the light would be just right.

Well tonight everything came together. I wasn't sure the sky was going to turn out so beautiful. When you're in a 2 ft crack in the wall, you don't have a lot of visibility to the sides. I also didn't want to keep going in and out to see where the sun was on the horizon because that would cause ripples in the water and ruin the reflection. I got to this spot a little after 4pm and the clouds were there but still white and you can never be certain the horizon is going to be clear enough get that beautiful underlighting on the clouds.

As the time for sunset got closer, the clouds went slowly from white to a pale yellow. My heart actually started beating faster -- I haven't felt like this since I was in grad school and had to give my first talk at a conference (you introverts know what I mean). Anyway the clouds turned brilliant orange and I just ripped off a huge number of shots.

Acrylic Fine Art Print with a Float Mount — Ready to Hang

Trulife Acrylic Fine Art Print

This is a photographic print where the front has been directly adhered to a sheet of TruLife acrylic which is an ultra clear, scratch resistant, and anti-reflective glazing. This process is known as face mounting. The acrylic captures light internally and bounces it off the surface of the print resulting in a display with incredible depth and vibrancy. With proper lighting, the acrylic print will appear to have light emanating from the image itself. The back of the print is sealed with another layer of protective acrylic.

The print comes ready to hang with hidden mounting hardware on the back that makes the print appear as if it is floating in front of the wall. No additional framing is needed. Choose this medium for a modern and minimalist presentation.

Print is signed and numbered on verso (back).

Please allow 4-6 weeks for production and delivery of your print. The prices include U.S. shipping, please inquire for international rates.
